Single step: divide by 12. There are exactly 12 inches in one foot, a fixed definition in both US customary and imperial systems.

60 inches is exactly 5 feet. 60 ÷ 12 = 5. In centimeters, 60 inches equals 152.4 cm.
72 inches is exactly 6 feet. 72 ÷ 12 = 6. In height terms, 72 inches or 6 feet is approximately 182.9 cm, slightly above the average adult male height in the US.
48 inches is exactly 4 feet. 48 ÷ 12 = 4 with no remainder. In height terms, 4 feet is 121.9 cm, approximately the average height for a 9-10 year old child.
36 inches equals exactly 3 feet, which is also equal to 1 yard. 36 ÷ 12 = 3. In centimeters, 36 inches = 91.44 cm.
120 inches equals exactly 10 feet. 120 ÷ 12 = 10. In metric, 120 inches = 304.8 cm = 3.048 meters.
5 feet equals exactly 60 inches. To convert feet to inches, multiply by 12: 5 × 12 = 60.
6 feet equals exactly 72 inches. 6 × 12 = 72. In centimeters, 6 feet = 182.88 cm.
Multiply the feet by 12 and add the remaining inches: (5 × 12) + 7 = 67 inches total. In centimeters, 67 inches = 170.18 cm.
Both are units of length in the US customary and imperial systems. One foot equals 12 inches. Inches are smaller (used for ruler lengths and object dimensions). Feet are used for room dimensions and human height. Yards are larger (3 feet = 36 inches).
The 12-inch foot has ancient origins. The Roman foot was divided into 12 unciae ("twelfths"), from which the word "inch" derives. 12 was practical because it divides evenly into halves, thirds, quarters, and sixths. The modern inch was formally standardized to exactly 25.4 mm in 1959.
